1. What is AWS?

AWS stands for Amazon Web Services. It is a service that is provided by Amazon and which uses distributed IT infrastructure to provide various IT resources on demand. It provides various services such as infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (Saas).

The Key Features of AWS are:

  • Simple Storage Service: S3 is a service from AWS that stores files. It is object-based storage, i.e., you can store images, word files, PDF files, etc. The file size that can be stored in S3 ranges from 0 bytes to 5 TB. It is an unlimited storage medium, i.e., you can store as much data as you want. The S3 has a bucket that stores files. A bucket is like a folder that stores files. It is a universal namespace, i.e., the name must be globally unique. Each bucket must have a unique name to generate a unique DNS address.
  • Elastic Compute Cloud: Elastic Compute Cloud is a web service that provides resizable compute capabilities in the cloud. You can up and down the computation capacity according to the computing requirement changes. It changes the economics of computing by allowing you to pay only for the resources you actually use.
  • Elastic Block Store: It provides a persistent block storage volume for use with EC2 instances in the AWS cloud. The EBS volume is automatically replicated within its availability zone to prevent component failure. It provides the high durability, availability and low latency performance needed to run your workloads.
  • CloudWatch: It is a service that is used to monitor all the AWS resources and applications that you run in real time. It collects and tracks metrics that measure your resources and applications.
  • Identity Access Management: It is a service of AWS which is used to manage users and their level of access to AWS management console. It is used to set users, permissions and roles. This allows you to grant permissions to different parts of the AWS platform.
  • Simple Email Service: Amazon Simple Email Service is a cloud-based email sending service that helps digital marketers and application developers to send marketing, notification and transactional emails. The service is very reliable and cost-effective for businesses of all sizes that want to keep in touch with customers.
  • Route53: It is a highly available and scalable DNS (Domain Name Service) service. It provides a reliable and cost-effective way for developers and businesses to deliver Internet applications to end users by translating domain names into numeric IP addresses.

3. What is AMI?

AMI stands for Amazon Machine Image. It is a template that provides the information (an operating system, an application server, and applications) needed to launch an instance, which is a copy of the AMI running as a virtual server in the cloud. You can launch instances from as many different AMIs as you want.

4. What is AWS Lambda?

It is a serverless and event-driven computing service. This allows for applications to run virtually code without any provisioning or management servers. Most AWS services and SaaS applications can trigger AWS Lambda. This service can execute any code volume due to its scaling properties. In addition, decoupled services can be communicated through the event-driven functions of AWS Lambda.

5. What happens to an Object when we delete it from Amazon S3?

Amazon S3 provides the DELETE API to delete an object.
If we want to delete an object from the version controlled bucket, we can specify the version of the object we want to delete. Other versions of the object still exist within the bucket.
If we don’t specify the version, and only pass the key name, Amazon S3 will delete the object and return the version ID and the object will not be visible on the bucket.
If Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is enabled on the bucket, the DELETE request will fail if we do not specify the MFA token.

6. What is AWS Snowball?

Snowball is a petabyte-scale data transport solution that uses secure appliances to transfer large amounts of data into and out of AWS cloud. There are two features available in this service: Snowball edge storage optimised devices and Snowball edge computes optimised devices.

7. What are EBS Volumes?

Elastic Block Store is a service that provides a persistent block storage volume for use with EC2 instances in the aws cloud. The EBS volume is automatically replicated within its availability zone to avoid component failure. It provides the high durability, availability and low latency performance needed to run your workloads.

8. What do you mean by Amazon EBS snapshots?

Amazon Elastic Block Stores (EBS) are point-in-time copies of snapshot data, which can be used to enable disaster recovery, data migration and backup compliance. This data protection system protects block storage such as EBS volumes, boot volumes and on-premises block data.

9. What is an EIP?

EIP (Elastic IP Address) is a service provided by an EC2 instance. It is basically a static IP address associated with an EC2 instance. This address is associated with your AWS account, not with the EC2 instance. You can also isolate your EIP address from your EC2 instance and map it to another EC2 instance in your AWS account.

10. What are key-pairs in AWS?

The keypair is the secure login information for your virtual machine. To join instances, you can use key-pairs that consist of a public-key and a private-key.

11. What are the different storage classes in S3?

Storage classes are used to aid concurrent loss of data in one or two facilities. In S3 every object is associated with some storage class. Amazon S3 has some storage classes in which you can store your items. You can choose a storage class based on your needs and these storage classes offer high durability.

12. What is AWS Copilot CLI?

AWS Copilot CLI is known as ‘Copilot Command-Line Interface’, which helps users deploy and manage containerized applications. Here, each step in the deployment lifecycle is automated; the steps include pushing to a registry, creating a task definition, and clustering. Therefore, it saves time for planning the necessary infrastructure to run applications.

13. What are the main features of Amazon CloudFront?

Some of the main features of Amazon CloudFront are as follows:

  • Device Detection
  • Protocol Detection
  • Geo Targeting
  • Cache Behavior
  • Cross Origin Resource Sharing
  • Multiple Origin Servers
  • HTTP Cookies
  • Query String Parameters
  • Custom SSL

  • S3 One Zone-infrequent access (S3 One Zone –IA)
  • S3 Glacier instant retrieval
  • S3 Glacier flexible retrieval
  • S3 Glacier deep archive
  • S3 Outposts

15. What is VPC?

VPC stands for Virtual Private Cloud. It is an isolated area of the AWS cloud where you can launch AWS resources in a virtual network that you define. It provides a complete control on your virtual networking environment such as selection of an IP address, creation of subnets, configuration of route tables and network gateways.

16. How does data transfer occur in AWS Snowcone and AWS storage devices?

Data is collected and processed at the source level after receiving it from sensors and other devices with the AWS Snowcone service. Then, the data is moved into AWS storage devices such as S3 buckets, either online or offline. And you can transfer data continuously to the AWS sources through Data sync options. Moreover, data is processed using Amazon EC2 instances, and then it is moved to AWS storage devices in the AWS Snowcone service.

17. What is an Elastic IP Address?

Amazon provides an Elastic IP Address with an AWS account. An Elastic IP address is a public and static IP address based on IPv4 protocol. It is designed for dynamic cloud computing. This IP address is reachable from the Internet. If we do not have a specific IP address for our EC2 instance, then we can associate our instance to the Elastic IP address of our AWS account. Now our instance can communicate on the Internet with this Elastic IP Address.

18. What are NAT Gateways?

NAT stands for Network Address Translation. It is an aws service that enables to connect an EC2 instance in private subnet to the internet or other AWS services.

19. What is AWS Copilot CLI?
